Hastings District Council is calling for nominations for the 2013 Civic Awards.
The awards recognise an individual, group or organisation which has contributed significantly to Hastings District. In 2012 seven individuals and one group were presented with civic awards for their outstanding work in the community.

Nominations are welcomed in one of the following categories; arts and culture, health and welfare, sport and recreation, education and youth, new volunteer and youth volunteer.

Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule says ‘Historically, nominations have been received for people who have given long and consistent service to the community. However the new and youth volunteer categories which were included in last year’s awards for the first time, ensured that we honour those who are relatively new to the ranks of volunteers or are younger and doing sterling work for the community.”

Lawrence Yule says “The awards recognise those who make a big difference to the community, and I urge everyone to identify members of your organisation or your community who are deserving of a nomination. Volunteers are playing an increasingly important role in maintaining a large variety of services in Hastings and those people need to be recognised for their dedication, perseverance and tenacity.”

The nominations will be judged by the Council’s Honours Awards Committee before the awards are presented at a ceremony in early May.

Nomination forms are available at the Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere libraries or from reception at the council building in Lyndon Road.
