SOE board appointments

State Owned Enterprises Minister Tony Ryall today announced four new appointments and 13 reappointments across seven SOEs and two airport companies.

“We are introducing highly skilled directors into the portfolio, as well as providing continuity of existing expertise” said Mr Ryall.

Rt Hon Dame Jenny Shipley has been reappointed as the Chair of Genesis Power Ltd, and Simon Allen as Chair of Crown Fibre Holdings Ltd. 

“Both Dame Jenny and Mr Allen have agreed to continue their strong leadership on their respective boards” said Mr Ryall.

New appointments:

1. Meridian Energy: Jan Dawson, former Chair and CEO of KPMG, current director of Air New Zealand, Westpac New Zealand and Goodman Fielder.
2. MetService: Carlos da Silva, chartered accountant and former Partner at Deloitte, Chair of Fisher and Paykel Finance Ltd
3. NZ Railways Corp (KiwiRail): Guy Royal, barrister and solicitor with commercial law experience, has advised organisations in New Zealand, Hong Kong, Vietnam and the United Kingdom. 
4. Transpower: Professor Jan Evans-Freeman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, College of Engineering, Canterbury University, board member at Industrial Research Ltd and the MacDiarmid Institute.

The SOE Minister thanked retiring board members for their efforts and service, and wished them well for their future endeavours.

Mr Ryall advised that work continues to identify additional appointees for the boards of Airways Corporation, Quotable Value and Solid Energy, as previously indicated, and the outcome of this process will be advised in due course.
