Council partnership with Waikawa residents delivers new jetty facilities
The jetty at Waikawa Bay has had a revamp thanks to a joint project organised by the Waikawa Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association and supported by the Marlborough District Council.
Costs of the $70,000 project were split, two-thirds to one-third, between the Association and the Council with volunteer labour helping to keep costs down.
Association chairman Brian King says the new ramp jetty and concreting of the launching area was funded out of the Association’s revenues received from ramp users while Picton councillor David Oddie says the Council contributed funding for the wooden floating pontoon and aluminium linkspan connected to the fixed jetty.
The Waikawa Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association has been responsible for many projects in the bay over the years. It meets monthly, on the second Wednesday of the month, at the Waikawa Boating Club. A $60 pa fee will give members unlimited use of the launching ramp. Membership forms are available at the ramp or by phoning 03 573 5155.
