A “Neighbourhood Get Together” for residents of the Anderson Park/ Lucknow area of Havelock North attracted between 300 and 400 people.

The event was held at Anderson Park in late October and was planned by a Community Group with support from Hastings District Council and other partners. The event included some fun activities and  allowed residents the opportunity to chat to others about the issues which matter in their community.

Havelock North Councillor Wayne Bradshaw says “The success of this event shows how important it is to give residents the opportunity to just mingle and talk. Many of those who attended indicated that they are keen to get active and there was a call for more events to be held in Anderson Park. Others showed their support for the formation of Neighbourhood Support Groups while there is a growing number of people who want to help get things done by joining the Community Group. This is a first step for the community to create a safe, resilient and active environment to live in.”

Fellow Councillor Scott Henderson says “Council is pleased to have been able to provide strong support for this community event. I am hopeful that this will result in Government agencies, clubs and others joining together to make positive things happen in the Anderson Park/Lucknow area. By working together, everyone can be part of making good things happen in their neighbourhood.”

The event was a follow up to a survey of Anderson Park/Lucknow residents which was conducted a few weeks earlier by members of the Community Group. The results of the survey will be incorporated into a community plan which is due for presentation to Council early next year.

Isiah, who goes to Havelock North High School and lives in the Anderson Park area, attended the event and won a merino hoodie from MacPac. He says “Winning the prize was a total bonus. I went along for a free sausage, some fun with other locals and to check out what else was on offer. Now I’ve got a hoodie, and I might even be able to get some good training ideas and help too.”
