Before Connell Contractors can dig trenches and place large pipes along Banks Street to convey treated wastewater to the outfall itself, the area must be kept dry by pumping out the ground water. This is achieved by “wellpoint dewatering” in which a series of pipes are thrust vertically several metres into the ground, connected to another horizontal pipe and then to a pump. Workers from Connell Contractors make their way along Banks Street attaching the well points in preparation for the larger pipes to be laid to their right.
