Limestone has been used for making memorial plaques for many years. It is the grey or blue matt stone mostly seen in the older areas of the cemetery. Its upside is that it weathers with time and ultimately it loses the beautiful grey or blue colour. So, if you choose limestone, you need to know that requires continual maintenance in order to remain at its good condition. The foregoing notwithstanding, limestone is a good choice for headstone wording and carving as it is fine grained and relatively soft.
