Viva Expeditions, the specialists in South American tours, has a fabulous new tour, providing an in-depth experience of Northern Argentina and Uruguay, offering culture, nature, wildlife and the finer things in life, including the vibrancy and passion of Buenos Aires, the cobbled streets of historical Colonia de Sacramento and Montevideo.  Visitors will spend a few days immersed in the Ibera Wetlands, viewing wildlife in Argentina’s most abundant natural reserve, enjoying both the Argentinean and the Brazilian side of the incredible Iguazu Falls.

This is a 14-day tour, with the first three days taken up with exploring fascinating Buenos Aires, visiting the historic Plaza de Mayo square, the Metropolitan Cathedral, San Telmo, one of the oldest neighbourhoods, the port neighbourhood of La Boca, the newest district of Puerto Madero and finally the district of Recoleta. The Recoleta Cemetery holds the remains of important personalities, including Eva Perón (Evita). On the final evening guests will enjoy a fabulous dinner and tango show.

On the fourth day, travellers will take a ferry across the River Plate to Colonia de Sacramento in Uruguay, enjoying lunch before setting off on a walking tour of the town, and on day five, they visit the lovely Bouza Winery en route to Montevideo. The tour starts with a visit to the vineyards, and a chance to observe the abundant wildlife surrounding them, plus a collection of antique cars, followed by a visit to the cave for a wine tasting. Next day is a bike tour around Montevideo, visiting the port area, the old city, Independence Square, Punta Carretas Lighthouse and Pittamiglio Castle along the coast.

Day seven sees Viva Expeditions’ guests driving north through the beautiful countryside of Uruguay towards Salto, with an opportunity to relax and unwind in the thermal hot springs in the evening. The Iberá Lake and marshlands are among the last natural paradises on earth and visitors can get face to face with caimans, capybaras, swamp deer, pampas deer, howler monkeys, giant otters, anacondas, greater rheas and hundreds of birds.

The Iberá Wetlands offer easy trekking to the monkey jungle and a visit to the park museum and the afternoon offers a choice between a boat safari or a horseback through the village and to the Caranday palm tree forests and reeds along the lakeside. Next day the tour heads north towards San Ignacio, where in the middle of the Argentine rainforest stand the ruins of San Ignacio Miní, a seventeenth-century Jesuit mission complex. After lunch the next day is the trek to the fantastic Iguazu Falls, considered to be the most impressive in the world and one of the top attractions in South America. Days twelve and thirteen provide views of the falls from first from the Argentina side, and then from Brazil and the Foz do Iguacu National Park and a visit to the Bird Park with more than 1020 birds from about 150 different species.

The final day guests are transferred to the airport in time for their flight out, having experienced  a most amazing tour. For further information please go to http://www.vivaexpeditions.com/south-america-tours/argentina-travel/highlights-of-argentina-and-uruguay.
