As part of their revamped website Viva Expeditions have a new web page, ‘Tours on Special’ and this month they have a fabulous tour, Colours of Peru.

Encompassing the very best of Lima, the Andes as well as the Amazon jungle, this popular 14 day highlights tour will explore the wonders of Peru like no other. You will sample spectacular local cuisine, incredible historical sites, and be wowed by Peru’s incredible natural environment.

The Colours of Peru tour begins in Lima, the capital of Peru on the country’s Pacific coast, where you will spend the first day exploring a number of well-known sites featuring Lima’s magnificent colonial architecture and pre-Columbian past. Next day you travel to Puno, taking in the pre-Inca burial ground of Sillustani, built from volcanic stone, reaching heights of up to 12 metres. Sillustani is considered to be one of the most important necropolises in the world.

From Puno you can visit the floating islands of Uros where you will meet descendants of one of the most ancient peoples of the Americas, and the next day you travel to Cusco, past spectacular snow-capped mountains, stopping along the way at the pre-Inca ruin of Raqchi. Cusco is the heart of the Inca Empire where you will encounter archaeological remains around the city, and the next day you visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas, overnighting in the Sacred Valley.

The next day you travel by train to Aguas Calientes and then by bus up to Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is a 15th century Inca site, located 2,430 metres above sea level on a mountain ridge above the Sacred Valley. Later this afternoon you return to Cusco via train and road, and fly the next day to Puerto Maldonado and on to Refugio Amazonas.

The Amazon Jungle affords a multitude of experiences, that you can enjoy by boat and on land, spending a full three days there, soaking up the flora and fauna not to be seen anywhere else in the world. From the jungle you will return to Lima, having truly experienced the Colours of Peru.
