Preparations for Asia’s first tournament in Japan have kicked off with the recent announcements for match schedules and ticket sales date.

Japan will host their first tournament in 2019 at 12 different cities all over the country, with the tournament lasting six weeks between the 20th of September to the 2nd of November. There will be 48 matches spreading the breadth of Japan, with each match venue hosting a minimum of two matches.

The twenty participating nations have recently been pooled, with hosts Japan as the opening match in Pool A. Defending champions New Zealand with South Africa in Pool B, England with France and Argentina in Pool C, and Australia with Wales and Georgia in Pool D.

World Rugby Chief Executive Brett Gosper said: “The development of the match schedule is an important milestone for what will be a very special Rugby World Cup. Throughout this rigorous process, we have had participating team experience for teams and fans at heart.”

There are 1.8 million tickets available for this highly-anticipated tournament. Avid rugby fans have started planning, with 60,000 fans already registered to create ticketing accounts. This Cup is said to be the ‘most accessible’ with the coming launch of the ticketing programme.

Player welfare and fan experience are the core of the match schedule and accessible ticketing programme, with all match venues within 45 minutes of a team camp.
