PAPAKURA

At about 6.15pm on Sunday 29/08/10, Police were called to a park/reserve at the end of Wilson Place in Papakura.

At this location was a 2 month old Labrador puppy that was being severely mistreated by four local boys in their early teens.

Witnesses reported the dog being repeatedly kicked before it was thrown up a tree. The dog was motionless when it fell back down. One of the boys then held it by its front legs whilst another boy kicked it in the stomach.

They continued punching and kicking the puppy and threw it through a basketball hoop.

Police apprehended all four boys on the scene and have been referred to the Youth Aid section for further follow up.

The Labrador puppy was taken to the SPCA by Police for medical attention. It suffered extremely bad bruising and was barely able to stand. Fortunately, it did not sustain any fractured bones.
