Cricket and Moustaches Aplenty at the Inaugural Movember Twenty20 Match
Cricket is a renowned territory for the mighty moustache, and over the years a great many Mo Bros have taken their chance to challenge the hairy heroes of the game.
And this Friday, with the heartwarming slap of leather on willow, Mo Bros gather once more, to take part in the inaugural Movember Twenty20 match, at the Auckland Domain.
From 2pm, Mo Bro players and spectators alike will rise to the challenge to raise both awareness and funds for the 2012 Movember campaign, pitting both skills and moustaches together, all in the name of men’s health.
Country Manager for Movember New Zealand Robert Dunne says this will be a ‘must-see’ match.
“Many a legendary cricketer has proudly worn a moustache and no doubt many of our participating Mo Bros will be hoping to channel some of that hairy energy into their game on the day,” says Dunne.
“And in keeping with our campaign theme this year, we’re hoping that some of the old hands will share both their cricketing knowledge and health tips with some of the younger guys to raise further awareness of Movember and its important messages,” he said.
Supported by the New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association, Canterbury of New Zealand and Bright’s, the Movember Twenty20 match will feature the cricketing talents of Mo Bro Ambassadors Wairangi Koopu, Will Hall and Matt Watson, alongside ring-in supporters Lou Vincent, Daniel Braid and Dai Henwood to name a few.
Glen Sulzberger, Commercial and Events Manager for the New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association says this is one event the players’ association was delighted to partake in. “A good number of our current Black Caps are sporting mo’s while they’re on tour in Sri Lanka,” says Sulzberger.
“They’re doing it to raise awareness of the good work that Movember continues to do in New Zealand and around the world, and we found it easy to rope in a few gun players for this one-off Twenty20 match.”
Canterbury of New Zealand, clothing suppliers to the Black Caps were also proud to supply the uniform for the players. “We’re really proud to put our names behind Movember,” says Marketing and Sponsorship Manager for Canterbury of New Zealand, Colin Gibson.
“We couldn’t just let these hairy blokes play in just any old shirt, so we’re decked them out in an appropriately branded Movember uniform,” says Gibson.
