A community picnic is being held to mark the completion of the Huatoki Walkway upgrade.

The public is invited to a BYO picnic from 11.30am to 2.00pm this Sunday (2 December) on Glenpark Glade, the walkway’s green space near the Frankley Road entrance.

“It’s a great chance for people to bring their families and explore the upgraded walkway for themselves,” says Let’s Go Project Manager Carl Whittleston.

The day will feature family orienteering, prizes, music, a barbecue and a bouncy castle – just bring a blanket and a picnic.

Over the last few months the walkway’s path has been widened, levelled out in places and either sealed or gravelled, and there have been new entranceways built and a new pedestrian bridge installed to link with Sycamore Grove.

Mr Whittleston says users have been very positive about the upgrade.

“They say the path is much easier to use now, whether they’re on foot or have a bike or pushchair,” he says.

“We have managed to open up the walkway while still keeping that natural stream-side feel within a city.”

If the picnic is postponed due to rain an announcement will be made about 9am on Classic Hits 90FM and on Let’s Go’s Facebook page, and a sign will be erected at the picnic site.
