Live music, fun for kids and a distinct December festive flavour are features of 2012-2013 Summer In Garden Place programme.

The seasonal programme of events sparks into life this Saturday, 1 December, with the lighting up of New Zealand’s largest Christmas tree – prominently placed at the Victoria Street end of Garden Place – from 9pm, by Mayor Julie Hardaker.

Councillor Angela O’Leary says the Summer In Garden Place programme includes a range of events, many showcasing some of Hamilton’s artistic and creative talent, including regular live music slots on Friday.

“The Friday live music slots, from 12pm-1pm, should add some nice ambience to Garden Place, especially for workers enjoying their lunch break,” Cr O’Leary says.

“This season’s Summer In Garden Place also includes the return of five events specifically for children – Kids’ Christmas Carnival on 15 December, the Kids’ Toy Trade Fair on 19 January, Kids’ Superhero Carnival on 26 January, Children’s Day Carnival on 23 February and Twilight Carnival on 30 March.”

Other Summer Garden In Garden Place events include Christmas Carolling (17-22 December), Country Music Weekend (2-3 February) and Chinese Lantern Festival.
