Hutt City’s Summer of Cycling promotion is back for another year and is a great way to discover why the Hutt Valley is the region’s cycling capital.

With nine events, a series of regular rides, bike maintenance and learn to ride workshops over a three-month period, there’s something for everyone from hard-core mountain bikers to families looking for a fun day out.

Mayor Ray Wallace says the Summer of Cycling is a great way to discover the wealth of cycling tracks and trails the Hutt Valley offers.

“I’m challenging everyone who has a bicycle languishing in the shed or garage, to dig it out, dust off the cobwebs, and re-acquaint yourself with one of the most fun ways of getting about.

“There are plenty of events suitable for families and new cyclists, including the popular Bike the Trail event  or Family Fun Day at the Waiu Park mountain bike area”.

“Experienced riders can challenge themselves with events like the epic Merida Karapoti Classic, the Akatarawa Attack and the Screaming-O. “

Hutt City Council is also offering a special discount on Phundamentals MTB Skills Clinics for $50 per person (usually $125).  Spaces are limited and are expected to fill quickly.  The course aims to give the basics on how to handle a mountain bike.  A women’s only course is also available.
