WELLINGTON CITY

Drivers heading for Buckle or Tasman streets will no longer be able to get there via Tory Street from Thursday 27 December.

The south end of Tory Street will be closed to through traffic for about five weeks while NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) does essential work on the new Buckle Street diversion road. The temporary road is being constructed to carry SH1 traffic while the Memorial Park tunnel is built.

People will still be able to drive up Tory Street to get to all the shops and businesses, and the temporary closure will not affect cyclists or pedestrians.

There will be a cycle and walking route through to Buckle and Tasman streets and detours in place for vehicles.

If you are driving from the city, you'll need to go around the Basin Reserve and use Rugby Street to get to Tasman Street.

The new Buckle Street diversion road is expected to open in late January. For more information, check phone 0800 020 086 or email memorial.park@nzta.govt.nz, or go to:
