Landfill pricing changes

From 1 January 2013, the cost of taking your van, ute, SUV or small trailer to the Silverstream Landfill will increase by $1, to $31.

The cost for commercial customers will increase by $3 per tonne. City Infrastructure General Manager Bruce Sherlock says the introduction of the Government’s Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) has triggered the increase.

“The ETS is a way for the government to put a price on greenhouse gas emissions creating an incentive to find more environmentally-friendly ways to do business.

“Although this means we must increase some of our charges at the Silverstream Landfill, the change is relatively small as it is a modern, fully lined facility and the region’s most environmentally friendly landfill.”
