Fatal Incident

At about 2.15am on Tuesday the 1st of January 2013 Police were called to a Fatal vehicle collision on Hokio Beach Road, Levin.

A taxi had been travelling west on Hokio Beach Road with a fare on board.

A pedestrian, a 29 year old Levin man, has been walking west on Hokio Beach Road.

The taxi has collided with the pedestrian, causing fatal injuries.  The pedestrian has died at the scene.

The driver of the taxi suffered minor injuries and did not need hospitalisation.

The deceased had been walking in a rural area with little street lighting and in dark clothing.

The crash is being investigated by a number of Police staff including the Serious Crash Analyst.  The vehicle will be inspected and the scene analysed to determine the cause of the crash.

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

The deceased's name will be released once the next of kin have been notified.
