A man with years of commercial construction and engineering experience has been selected to replace the long-serving Anthony Wilson as NPDC’s General Manager Infrastructure.

Jim Willson, formerly the Council’s Manager Projects, will take on the senior management role from this Monday (7 January).

“Jim is a highly regarded structural engineer with extensive experience in the private sector including 16 years operating his own commercial construction business, and is a former president of the Manawatu Master Builders Association,” says Chief Executive Barbara McKerrow.

“The variety of his experience in the commercial world will be invaluable in this senior role.”

Mr Willson started with NPDC about three and a half years ago.

He says his biggest challenge will be continuing to provide the level of service that residents have come to expect while operating within constrained budgets.

“We need to look to the future and prepare for what we will need to provide, but we have to get the best value out of our budgets at the same time,” says Mr Willson.

“Because of my background in engineering and in business, I believe I will be able to meet both of those goals.”

As General Manager Infrastructure, Mr Willson is responsible for the district’s roads, parks, water and wastes, projects, property and quality assurance, and the Let’s Go programme.

  • In November last year, Anthony Wilson moved to Wellington City Council to take up the role of Chief Asset Officer after nearly 30 years with NPDC.
