Sea rescue; twenty people rescued

A major sea rescue operation which has now ended safely was 'scary' for twenty people who were rescued off the coast of Hahei on the Coromandel Peninsula this afternoon.

A police spokesperson has told Dribble NZ News the group of swimmers were swept out to sea in strong currents and asked for a 'major sea rescue'.

Police, Fire and Ambulance services have attended the incident which has now been resolved.

All of those swept to sea have been rescued and are now in OK condition.
