Investigation into the unexplained death of a person located at Arkles Bay Beach, Whangaparäoa on 7 January 2013.

Rodney Police are today continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the recovery of a deceased person from the shoreline at Arkles Bay Beach, Whangaparäoa early on Monday 7 January 2013.

Police have now formally identified the deceased, however no disclosure of the person’s details will be released until next of kin have been notified.

“Our investigation will concentrate on providing clarity around the circumstances which led to the deceased being located on shoreline at Arkles Bay”, said Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Batty of the Rodney CIB.

“Police officers will be conducting enquiry activities at a number of locations around the Arkles Bay area today.  These enquiries are likely to continue for some days.  Officers will be seeking assistance from residents of Arkles Bay and members of the Whangaparäoa community to establish the movements of the deceased person in the hours leading up to the person’s death.”

“Any information relating to suspicious activity in or around the McKenzie Avenue, Margaret Place, Arkles Strand area between Sunday 6 and Monday 7 January 2013 would be of direct interest to our enquiry and anyone with such information can direct it to the Orewa Police Station on 09 426 4555.  Community members can also provide information anonymously via the Crime Stoppers phone line on 0800 555 111.”
