Fatal crash

On Tuesday 8th of January 2013, at approximate 6.00pm. Police attended a motor vehicle accident on Jellicoe Road, Ruawai.

A motor cycle collided with a Toyota van. Both vehicles were travelling South on Jellicoe road. The van was completing a right turn into a service station when it was struck from behind.

The motor cyclist has attempted to overtake the van while it was turning. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor. The motor cyclist was also not wearing a safety helmet at the time of the collision.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene by ambulance staff.

The deceased is a local Ruawai resident, male, aged 20 years.

Next of kin have been advised.
