This Saturday is your chance to experience Pacific Island life without leaving town.

In fact, Wellingtonians only have to travel to Waitangi Park for Positively Pasifika 2013: We Are the Ocean. The festival theme celebrates Pacific Islanders' voyaging cultures and connections.

The festival kicks off at 9.30am with an ocean-themed procession, starting at Jack Ilott Green in Civic Square, to Waitangi Park.

Local Pacific communities will share cultures, traditions and delicious food, and there will be cultural performances and demonstrations.

The headline acts for Positively Pasifika are up-and-coming soul funkstress Iva Lumkum and Brownhill - a sunshine reggae band - featuring Swiss.

There will also be a talent quest, and fun competitions like jandal-kicking, tug-of-war and a chop suey taste-off. Or bring your own ukulele and learn an island ditty at the ukulele workshop.

Positively Pasifika 2013: We Are the Ocean, Waitangi Park, 11.00am - 6.00pm, Saturday 19 January. For more information, see:
