Silo Park is excited to announce that the Rice & Beans Festival will be taking over Wynyard Quarter on Saturday 23 February for a one-off, eclectic mish-mash of music, culture, art and food.

Offering the greater Auckland community fantastic free entertainment in their own backyard, the Rice & Beans Festival is the perfect family outing. Visitors can grab a bite to eat then settle in for an afternoon of South American tunes from an epic south of the border line-up.

Headlining the day will be New York DJ, Nickodemus, who will explore the intersection of urban and world music with the sounds of funk jazz hip-hop house and dub, and Tamenpi, all the way from Rio de Janeiro. The international headliners will be joined by local acts including LatinAotearoa (Jennifer Zea, Bobby Brazuka, Isaac Aesili), Jah Red Lion, Sandy Bay Social Club, and Stinky Jim.

Kicking off at 12pm, it’s promised to be a day of the very best tunes, browsing every style from soul funk, jazz, reggae, Brazilian music, afrobeat, downtempo, and everything in between – the perfect way to while away a sunny February afternoon.

Silo Cinema also announces its February schedule this week with some absolute must-do’s for the summer calendar including the special edition films for Valentine’s Day (The Princess Bride) and Waitangi Day Eve (Marley - A documentary on the life, music, and legacy of Bob Marley). As well as regular screenings including ‘Ghost Busters’ (Feb 1), Show Me Shorts – Mini Short Film Festival (Feb 8), ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert’ in association with the Auckland Pride Festival (Feb 15), and ‘Searching for Sugar Man’, a documentary about Detroit Folksinger, Sixto Rodriguez, on Feb 22.
