Unprecedented Foodbank Demand in Ranui

Families experiencing hardship continue to place pressure on the Ranui Baptist Foodbank’s resources.
Parcels issued during 4th Qtr 2012 exceeded the previous year’s 4th Qtr by 93.5%. This in a context of 32.5% increase over the past three years and a 42.6% increase during the 2012 calendar year.
Ranui Baptist Community Support Worker, Graham Davis who faces a queue of desperate families weekly says the rate of change in demand is accelerating.
He believes these stats demonstrate a gap is being created by Government welfare policies that is impacting communities and increasing demand for services provided by community organisations.
Currently organisations such as Ranui Baptist Community Care, which operates the foodbank along with other wrap around support, rely on resources from likeminded philanthropic funders and businesses.
However, says Mr Davis, sustainability of the current implementation of Government Policy by our organisation is only possible if we also have a more secure source of funding.
Sources of supply for the Foodbank include the Catholic Caring Foundation, Auckland City Mission, Guardian Trust, ASB Community Trust, Ranui Baptist Community Care, Baptist Union, Fair Food NZ and various community minded businesses and individuals
