Christchurch Police are seeking information to help identify a man who indecently assaulted a teenage boy on a bus on Saturday afternoon [26 January].

Detective Brent Lyford says the 16-year old victim was travelling on the Leopard Coachlines number 5 bus between New Brighton and Eastgate Mall in Linwood when he was assaulted.

"The information we have to date suggests the offender was at the bus stop on Beresford Street, New Brighton prior to the assault," Detective Lyford says.

"We believe the man exited the bus near Eastgate Mall and was last seen running east on Buckleys Road."

The man is described as European in his mid 20s, of medium build with a chubby face, dark mid-neck length hair combed to the rear, and a light goatee beard.

At the time of the assault he was reported to be wearing a black "Forsyth Barr" t-shirt, white shorts and jandals.

Detective Lyford says that although the boy did not suffer any injuries, the incident was very distressing.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Lyford at Christchurch Police on (03) 363 7400.
