Man arrested after aggravated burglary and arson

A 43-year-old Auckland man was this afternoon the subject of a bedside hearing and charged with various offences relating to the incidents in Bleakhouse Road and MacCleans Road, Howick, which occurred last evening.

The hearing occurred at around 4.15pm and the man was charged with the following:
2 x Aggravated Burglary relating to both addresses
1 x Arson relating to Bleakhouse Road
1 x Assault on police
1 x Threatening to kill
1 x Common Assault relating to the 83-year-old victim

The man has been remanded in custody and remains under guard in hospital until his medical needs are taken care of. He will reappear in the Manukau District Court on 4 December 2007.

The 83-year-old woman's condition is still described as serious but stable.

Police will be making no further comment as this case is now before the courts
