Elderly man missing in Auckland

At approximately 6.30pm this evening a 79 year old male went missing from the Meadowbank Village Rest Home situated at 154 Meadowbank Road, Auckland.

The missing man is John Averill. He is described as a male caucasian, 6'1 tall, slim build, short white hair, wearing a dark green shirt, long pants and leather shoes.

Mr Averill suffers from dementia and will be confused. Police search and rescue teams are currently searching the Meadowbank area for Mr Averill.

If any members of the public come across Mr Averill could they please contact Police immediately. Police hold fears for Mr Averill's safety.
