AUCKLAND WELSH CHOIR ANNUAL TRIBUTE TO ST DAVID,
THE WELSH PATRON SAINT, IN AID OF HOSPICE NORTH SHORE

Auckland Welsh Choir returns to St Joseph’s Church Takapuna for its annual celebration in tribute to St David, the patron saint of Wales. This year’s programme, entitled ‘Songs of Love and Land’, combines its cornerstone Welsh music with extracts from Vaughan Williams’ Folk Songs of the Four Seasons, a sample of songs from closer to home, and a topical surprise.

Last year, pipes, soloists and a harp contributed to the diversity of the programme, and this year will again feature the abundance of instruments for which this annual tribute is renowned. The choir’s recent concert with the Devonport Chamber Orchestra included a selection of English folk songs arranged and orchestrated by the Welsh-named Ralph Vaughan Williams. Many of these will remain firm favourites with the choir, and will offer a balance with the programme’s selection of Celtic, Kiwi, Afro-American and other ‘songs of the people’.

The concert will feature soloists and the chamber choir (known as Telynogion) in a wide variety of performance genre, including songs from the great classic, Les Miserables.

Auckland Welsh Choir will be donating all profits from the concert to Hospice North Shore.
