Less than two months into 2013, the first Conference Assistance Programme (CAP) win for the year has been secured. New Zealand has won the rights to host the 6th Asia Pacific Regional Conference of the International Association for Suicide Prevention.

Four countries bid for the conference which is worth an estimated NZD 1.9 million to New Zealand. It will attract up to 750 delegates from over 50 countries and will be held in Auckland in 2014.

The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) is a not-for-profit organisation that has official relations with the World Health Organisation. This is the first time an international suicide prevention conference has been held in New Zealand and the focus will be on showcasing new research, and engaging with prevention practitioners, from a variety of communities and ethnic backgrounds.

Later this month Christchurch will host the Public Communicators of Science and Technology (PCST) Symposium 2013, a conference won last year with the help of the CAP.

The Conference Assistance Programme (CAP) is available to any association or organisation that is in a position to formally bid for an international conference of over 200 delegates to be held here in New Zealand.
Tourism New Zealand manages and administers the CAP on behalf of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
