Woman sexually assaulted on Onepoto walkway

Porirua CIB is appealing for information about the identity of two men after a young woman was sexually assaulted while walking along the Onepoto waterfront walkway.

Constable Jocelyn Bell, Porirua CIB, said the incident happened last Thursday night, 22 November, between 10pm and 11pm, on the Porirua Harbour walkway that starts from Onepoto.

The victim, a 173 cm (5ft 8in) tall slimly built 20-year-old Caucasian woman, was walking her small dark-coloured dog when she was attacked.

"She was held from behind around her throat and neck while another man sexually assaulted her," Constable Bell said.

One male is described as a Polynesian, about 20 years old, 173cm (5ft 8in) tall, of muscular build, clean shaven, and was wearing sports clothing.

Police have released the attached face sketch of the second man - also described as a Polynesian, in his late 20s, 176cm (5ft 9in) tall, of muscular build who was also wearing sports clothing. His facial appearance is similar to the sketch. This man also has a tattoo and scar on his left forearm.

"We know that incidents like this can cause community concern as people should feel safe and be safe while enjoying recreational areas," Constable Bell said.

"We'd like to hear from people who were in the Onepoto area last Thursday night as they may have seen or heard something that will help our investigation," she said.
