The first tickets have this week been released for sale for the US$50,000 SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open 2013 to be held April 10-14 at the North Shore Events Centre.

The event is a welcome addition to the New Zealand sporting calendar for 2013, with over 40 players from six different nations already entered and set to provide plenty of top international badminton competition.

The tournament sees a return of top badminton to New Zealand after the last event was held in 2011 as the Li-Ning New Zealand International Challenge. This year sees the event upgraded to a BWF World Grand Prix event, with prize-money of US$50,000 up for grabs. A Badminton World Federation Grand Prix tournament the New Zealand event, forms part of a three tournament swing through Oceania.  It follows on from the Australian Badminton Open in Sydney - a Grand Prix Gold tournament, and precedes the Tahiti International.

Tickets range from $6  to  $35 with tournament packages from $58 and courtside hospitality from $75pp.

There are also Finals Entertainment packages available which include accommodation, breakfast, transport to the venue and hospitality.   http://www.eventfinder.co.nz/2013/skycity-new-zealand-badminton-open/auckland/wairau-valley

Event Director Julie Carrel expects around 350 players to enter, including a number of top 20 ranked players from around the world. Players confirmed so far are from nations China, Thailand, India, Netherlands, Indonesia, Macau and New Zealand

“It’s pleasing to have players from the big badminton nations entering so early as we still have a month to go before entries close.   The flow on effect from the tournament in Australia is beneficial as is the fact we have a strong partner in SKYCITY.  It’s also very pleasing to be able to put ticket packages to the market early and I’m sure there will be a positive response,” says Carrel.  “We’ve had a great response from volunteers and badminton enthusiasts from around the country who are right in behind the event with plenty of support.”

The SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open will be held from 10-14 April 2013 at the North Shore Events Centre, Auckland
