GABA (the Gay Auckland Business Association) is looking for new volunteers to help build on the success of the Mardi Gras inspired GlamStand which was the centre piece of the return of the Pride Parade to Auckland in February after a ten-year absence.

Michael Richardson, GABA Presidents comments: `The success of the Pride Parade, GABA GlamStand, Big Gay Out and our regular Mixer meetings depends on the volunteer efforts of our membership. As we start a new year we’re looking for new members and for old members who would like to put something back into our Rainbow Community. We really could do with expertise in the following areas, events, communications and membership services. But whatever your skills we need you.’

Events: Volunteers with event management skills who will take the lead in organizing our new business seminar series, help out with the Mixer and contribute fabulous ideas for our flag ship events.

Comms: Stylish, witty, well connected communicators for our Comms Team. If you are ace on social media, can craft a convincing piece of copy and know how to work your connections, this could be the perfect role for you.

Membership: Growing our numbers, making sure members get the full benefits from GABA, networking and promoting our community. If you think you have what it takes, put your hand up and take on the challenge.

Sarah Lambourne, GABA Trust and GABA Executive Membership Leader says: `It was such a thrill to be at the GABA GlamStand at the very heart of the inaugural Pride Parade and the return of LGBT celebrations to Auckland after a ten year hiatus. The GlamStand hosted over 300 guests including a VIP area for politicians, key influencers and stakeholders who took part in the ceremonial cutting of the multi-coloured ribbons on the street immediately in front of the GlamStand. It was a fabulous day and I want to say a massive well done to everybody for a spectacular event. All of you who took part and helped make it happen with limited time and resources did GABA proud.’

GABA Vice President Andy Jalfon points out: `We have achieved an amazing milestone and can feel a real sense of pride. The most exciting part of this is that GABA as a group has transformed the LGBT forum for business associations and have made a significant difference to the experience that people have in this area. We have influenced, lobbied, made new allies and given people a great experience!’
