HAWKE'S BAY

Imagine struggling to walk to the letterbox to get the mail, battling to get some milk from the dairy or simply being unable to leave the house – seemingly simple tasks that are hugely challenging for New Zealanders with reduced mobility.

Reduced mobility affects New Zealanders of all ages, shapes and sizes, it does not discriminate.

There is a variety of reasons why people are affected - from physical disabilities, to illness and old age. Luckily for those New Zealanders, there are now many more solutions to help give back the independent mobility that many of us take for granted.

dtr is a local retailer that’s closely connected with the Hawke’s Bay community and recognised that some of its customers were struggling with mobility issues. To help with this issue, dtr launched a range of affordable mobility scooters – bringing these essential products within reach of everyday New Zealanders.

To launch its new independent living category, dtr are giving one Kiwi the chance to win a mobility scooter!

They’re looking to give this mobility scooter to a person for whom mobility would mean a world of difference. That could mean being able to get back out into the community, participate in family events – or simply enjoy the freedom of being able to get out of the house without assistance.

Most of us will know someone like this – and now’s the time to act! Drop into dtr on Heretaunga Street for an application. Tell us their story and they’ll be in to win!

The competition is being judged by an inspirational New Zealander, who has overcome disability to become an award-winning athlete. Cam Calkoen was born with cerebral palsy, but has triumphed over physical limitations to inspire others to achieve success in the face of adversity.

Competition launches Wednesday 4th March and ends Thursday 28th March.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday 3rd April.

Entry forms are available from community service organisations and dtr, 105-107 Heretaunga Street East, Hastings.
