Cottonsoft Proudly Presents Books For Change

A toilet paper manufacturer is after old books for recycling - not into toilet rolls, but to send to learning centres in Indonesia.

Kiwi tissue maker Cottonsoft is asking school communities to donate excess books for its Books for Change programme.

The collected books will be shipped from New Zealand to deserving children abroad early next year.

Intermediate school students in Auckland are being asked for "age and culture appropriate" books that will be delivered to learning centres located in Malang, Mojokerto, Sidoarjo and Perawang - where they are in short supply.

In October, best-selling New Zealand author Justin Brown visited the Perawang learning centre as part of his role as champion for the campaign.

He took some of his own titles to the students there and blogged about his experience.

"The library had fiction and non-fiction titles in Indonesian, Japanese and English. The shelves were [maybe] half-full, with plenty of room for more titles," he wrote.

The programme runs until February, when two schools that have donated the most books will each receive an iPad
