Foggy draws on previous strong performances at Pukekohe
Heading to the third round of the BNT V8 SuperTourers at Pukekohe Park Raceway, Angus Fogg looks to last year’s top five qualifying position at the circuit for inspiration for a similar performance this weekend.
“We went well at Pukekohe last time we were there, having qualified fifth for last October’s V8 SuperTourer endurance event,” says Fogg, who’s based in the Auckland suburb of Birkenhead. “That’s better than we’ve achieved at any other circuit, so we hope to carry that form forward into this round. At the last round in Christchurch we were happy with our lap speed – encouragingly also in the top five although it didn’t quite transfer into the race results we were after.”
Foggy has sampled the revamped Pukekohe circuit prior to the three-race event running 25 to 26 May.
“I raced, or more specifically, attempted to race in the Honda Cup endurance race a couple of weeks ago and then did some hot lap rides there last Saturday.
“We can expect to see some fairly exciting passing manoeuvres happening in that new corner combination on the back straight,” says the PropertyTutors Commodore driver. “It definitely opens things up for a fair bit of interpretation, especially the way our class races and our passing rules compared to V8 Supercars. Because it’s quite wide and then narrows down, there are two or three lines that could be taken and I think that’s going to be the corner to watch, for sure. All we can hope for is that we give each other a bit of respect, otherwise it’s going to be crash fest!”
Fogg’s hoping for a dry weekend of racing, but with showers forecast for Sunday, isn’t holding his breath.
“The ol’ Pukekohe onions floating down the front straight situation is still there; in fact it’s probably worse than it’s ever been through the new part. If it rains, it’s certainly going to be a big challenge for everyone, because the circuit was treacherous in the rain on Saturday when I was doing hot laps.”
Angus Fogg Racing has recently confirmed sponsorship agreements with RadioLIVE and CRC Speedshow.
Fogg comments: “It’s neat to have another couple of partners on-board. I spent part of Sunday with Hamish McKay at RadioLIVE – we hit it off pretty well, so that was good and there will be on-going links with the LIVESport news team providing news and coverage from the track over race weekends.”
He adds: “CRC Speedshow is quite simply us Kiwis’ favourite motor show, so it’s neat to have Angus Fogg Racing and the PropertyTutors Commodore be part of that. We’re looking forward to flying the flag for V8 SuperTourers and our sponsors at the show in July – it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.”
The PropertyTutors Racing Commodore runs in the 2013 BNT V8SuperTourers series with the support of PropertyTutors, RadioLIVE, Moselle Panel & Paint, Supercharge Batteries, Segedins Auto Spares, iSignit, Tom Ryan Cartage, Searoad Logistics, PPG, and CRC Speedshow.
