The Mission Restaurant, located inside an historic seminary building overlooking the glorious Hawke’s Bay landscape, has been a favourite with locals and visitors alike for more than 14 years.

After all this time, the restaurant remains at the very top of its game, as shown with three recent accolades, from the industry’s toughest judges: their customers and their peers.

A regular recipient of the New Zealand Beef & Lamb plates since 1998, the Mission Restaurant has now won the People’s Choice Award for the Hawke’s Bay region.

Restaurant Manager Daniel Jaritz says, “This award means a great deal to us, because we were chosen by the public. My daughter was born as the voting period started and, being a little distracted, we only started handing out the voting cards two weeks after the competition began. The fact that we still won is a fantastic endorsement of the restaurant team and our Executive Chef Daniel Lorch.”

The Mission Restaurant staff is equally well regarded, winning the hotly contested Best Front of House Team at the recent 2013 Hawke’s Bay Hospitality Awards. This is another great honour, as only professionals working within the hospitality industry are entitled to vote for their peers.

Completing the awards trifecta, the restaurant’s 21-year-old trainee chef Thomas Rofe was named the region’s top overall apprentice at the Greenmeadows Rotary and EIT Hawke’s Bay Apprentice Awards.
