AUCKLAND

More than five thousand people marched Auckland's Queen Street this afternoon protesting the proposed Electoral Finance Bill.

Organiser John Boscawen lead the march from the Town Hall to QEII Square at 2.30pm.

Blogger and Kill The Bill campaign organiser Cam Slater said he was pleased with the public response.

The march was Lent some high profile weight with the Christine Rankin and Rodney Hide joining the march.

The bill is designed to stop covert campaigns such as that waged at the last election by the Exclusive Brethren but it has been widely criticised for limiting freedom of speech.

Opponents says the proposed legislation will be in breach of the Bill of Rights Act.

YouTube videos will be available soon.
