Derek the Chef has over 30 years of experience as a professional Chef and Tutor as well as over 17 years demonstrating different foods at various shows, but says he just ‘loves the people and age group’ of the country’s leading Motorhome Caravan & Outdoor expo, the Covi Motorhome Caravan & Outdoor SuperShow on in Auckland from 20th to the 22nd September at the ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane.

“The Covi SuperShow is just fantastic,” he says. “There are loads of people doing what I want to do when I retire; cruise the world in a motorhome.”

Derek has been busy this week preparing for the Covi SuperShow, getting all his supplies and recipes sorted for the meals he will cook during the show in the Stop & Stay area where there are also exhibitors representing many of the best places to visit in New Zealand and Australia.

“It’s just brilliant. The meals I cook at the show are simple and easy to prepare; prefect for being on the road. We create a fun cooking environment and I also cook 16 meals a day during the show for winners of a local radio competition.”

Derek the Chef, or Derek Robertson, was Gourmet Foods Chef of the Year 2002 and features on New Zealand’s longest running outdoors show, apart from Country Calendar,  Carters Gone Fishin. He has produced two seafood cookbooks, The Backyard Gourmet (The BBQ owners Bible), The Backyard Gourmet Vol 2 as well as The Motor home Kitchen cook book.

Derek says he has a great love of all things outdoors and especially fishing, and is looking forward to the experience of cooking his recipes once again at this year’s Covi SuperShow.
