Subaru has introduced a well packaged Impreza X model priced at only $31,990 and packed with features for its price point in the small car market. The limited production model has a two litre “Boxer” engine with 110 kWs and 196 Nm of torque, Symmetrical All Wheel Drive and comes with Subaru’s Lineartronic automatic transmission (SLT).Meeting Euro 5 emission standards, with its automatic stop start technology it has an overall fuel consumption of 6.8 litres/100 kms.

“Impreza has a niche in the small car market,” said Wallis Dumper, the Managing Director of Subaru of New Zealand. “With Subaru’s standard Symmetrical All Wheel Drive, the two litre Boxer engine, technology features and a long list of standard equipment, Impreza X is an excellent value for money package.”

Dumper continues: “You have to remember this vehicle features Subaru’s Symmetrical All Wheel Drive DNA so that creates price challenges in this “hot” part of the NZ market. We worked hard with Subaru Japan to arrive at a value package that holds true to our brand’s core strengths so the only way to achieve this with the factory was to accept supply on a limited production basis.  Basically we have about four production allocations per year and that will present Kiwi customers with an opportunity to forward order or secure dealer pre-order stock through 2014.”

Safety equipment includes seven airbags, Vehicle Dynamics Control and Anti-lock brakes, a reversing camera, five star ANCAP crash testing rating, ring shaped reinforcing of the body shell and anti-intrusion beams in the doors. And it looks the part with 16 inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, rear privacy glass, rear spoiler and a choice of Obsidian Black, Pearl White, Ice Silver, Dark Grey, Marine Blue, Camellia Red and Deep Cherry paint finishes.

There is dual zone air conditioning and a leather covered steering wheel and gear selector. The steering wheel has paddle shifters for manual use of the transmission and controls for the audio system, cruise control and multi-function display screen. The rear seats have a 60:40 split for cargo versatility, there are cup holders front and rear and all four doors have pockets capable of carrying bottles.

The sound system is i-Pod, MP3 and WMA compatible with a USB connection and auxiliary jack point. Bluetooth wireless technology includes voice command recognition. A comprehensive trip computer utilizes the multi-function display and the remote central locking incorporates the engine immobiliser security system. Power steering, electric windows and mirrors complete the package.

Dumper reiterates: “Whilst the competitors in this segment will be very aggressive with pricing, discerning customers need to remember that this Impreza X is a two litre, Symmetrical All Wheel Drive with all the bells and whistles.”
