As the Clinical Director of Younger By Design in Auckland, Vikram Jayaprakash, M.D. is a big fan of the Mediterranean diet, believing that the ingredients in the diet can improve peoples’ mood and their sense of well-being. Dr Jayaprakash believes that a good diet should include a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and fats, all essential to help body tissues grow and repair themselves. The Mediterranean regimen typically includes plant-based foods, healthy fats, such as canola and olive oils, poultry and fish and low-fat dairy products. The Mediterranean diet avoids red and high-fat meats and typically includes a glass of red wine with dinner, for those who imbibe alcohol and a glass of grape juice for teetotallers. The foods contain antioxidants, selenium, omega-3 fatty acids, and other valuable nutrients.

Dr Jayaprakash also believes in taking a whole-body approach to health, focusing on anti-aging, cosmetic, and functional medicine. Using bio-identical hormones and the functional matrix model, he also addresses nutrition and how different types of food affect health, in particular peoples’ mental health. While no definitive studies have proven that diet alone will alleviate the symptoms of depression, what we eat obviously lays a role in how we feel, and when our bodies receive the proper nutrition, they tend to thrive. It is a well-known fact that the better people feel physically, the better they are going to feel emotionally. For all of these reasons, Dr Jayaprakash recommends the Mediterranean diet to his patients.

As well as recommending the Mediterranean diet, Dr Jayaprakash follows a functional matrix model, offering his patients anti-aging and preventative medical services. In particular, Dr Jayaprakash evaluates patients’ hormonal balance in administering bio-identical hormones. This approach promotes disease prevention and healthy aging, ensuring the body’s efficient physiological functioning. Dr Vikram Jayaprakash also provides clients with non-surgical cosmetic options, utilising dermal fillers and botulinum toxin (Botox) to create subtle enhancements in appearance.

Since August 2011, Dr Jayaprakash has also served as a general practitioner at Marsden Medical Practice in Auckland. As a family physician, he treats a wide range of patients with acute and chronic conditions. In addition to undertaking clinical care and workload management responsibilities, he performs some administrative duties at the busy central location. Dr Vikram Jayaprakash brings more than a decade of medical training and experience to his position as the Medical Director of Younger By Design in Auckland, New Zealand.
