17-year-old killed in head on crash with truck

At approx 5.45pm yesterday, a 17 yr old Queenstown man was killed in a head-on motor vehicle crash on SH6 near Gibbston Valley.

While the investigation has not concluded, initial indications are that the vehicle crossed the centre line directly into the path of a truck and trailer unit travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the car was killed instantly.

The driver of the truck was admitted to Queenstown Hospital with moderate injuries.

It is too early in the investigation to determine what were the contributing factors involved. 

The crash scene was attended by the Serious Crash unit as well as the Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit (CVIU) and their conclusions will have a significant bearing on the Police investigation. 

A number of witnesses are yet to be spoken to and Police would appeal to anyone who saw the crash and has not been spoken to yet to come forward. 

The matter has now been referred to the Coroner
