QUEENSTOWN

Queenstown’s winter wonderland – including tourism jewel Novotel Queenstown Lakeside – will be enjoyed in more than one million Australian homes this morning via the nation’s number one breakfast television show, Sunrise.

This will be the first time the show has ever filmed in New Zealand, giving families across the proverbial ditch the opportunity to see Queenstown after its beautiful recent snowfall.

Sunrise will broadcast live from the picturesque destination over two days on 19-20 June, joined by 60 lucky fans of the show. To celebrate, Novotel Queenstown Lakeside is offering a special accommodation package for travellers looking to experience the magic of mid-winter Queenstown for themselves.

General Manager of Novotel Queenstown Lakeside, Jim Moore, said he and his team are delighted to partner with Sunrise and Tourism New Zealand, to promote Queenstown’s alpine wonderland and entice Australian families to indulge in an unforgettable winter resort experience.

“We’re off to a great ski season with early snowfalls this month, so the Sunrise team and their 60 lucky viewers are sure to experience Queenstown in its element and we look forward to accommodating them while the live filming takes place.”

During their stay in Queenstown, Sunrise viewers will enjoy an exclusive welcome function at Novotel Queenstown Lakeside, as well as a fun-filled trivia dinner with Sunrise hosts David Koch, Samantha Armytage, Mark Beretta, Natalie Barr and Edwina Bartholomew. They will also experience the remote Skippers Canyon, indulge in lunch at Amisfield Winery & Bistro overlooking Lake Hayes, and sip cocktails surrounded by more than 18 tonnes of ice architecture at Minus 5 ICEBAR.

In the lead-up to Sunrise’s visit, viewers at home have been enjoying daily live weather crosses since Monday 16 June from some of the South Island’s most scenic winter locations, including Mt Hutt, Tekapo, Mackenzie, Remarkables and Wanaka.

The live action will kick off today from Coronet Peak with the Sunrise Cash Cow, and will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival set to take place in Queenstown 20-29 June.

The partnership between Tourism New Zealand, Accor and Seven Network was secured through Tourism New Zealand Australia, and follows the launch of Tourism New Zealand’s recent ‘More magic in every day’ winter advertising campaign. The campaign is aimed to inspire Australians to discover more winter magic adventures with friends in New Zealand.
