Hire King + 'Greening The Rubble'

Greening the Rubble (GtR) is a charitable trust that grew after the Canterbury earthquakes and is involved in creating and maintaining temporary public parks on cleared sites in Christchurch. Each garden contributes to the rejuvenation of the city and is a positive, green sign of recovery!  They are a community project for Christchurch, New Zealand, which unites a team of locals and visitors responding creatively to the extensive damage caused by the earthquakes, creating temporary public parks and gardens on sites of demolished buildings, usually in commercial rather than residential streets.

Greening the Rubble are working on their big project of the year, Places of Tranquillity, and have enlisted the help of HireKING toilet and general equipment hire. Most of the Greening the Rubble volunteers are usually able to walk to the nearest public toilet (for this project, it is about a 10 minute walk away at the Peterborough St library), however they had an afternoon with 5-7 year olds helping with some planting and it was just a bit too far for busy minds and small legs. This is where the obliging team from HireKING stepped in, providing a portable toilet for as long as it was needed. 

The site is fenced off (location is Corner of Manchester St and Cambridge Tce and the afternoon of September 10 was organised by Volunteering Canterbury who are promoting it to demonstrate their education in schools programme. HireKING were more than happy to sponsor and support this event.
