Zoe Helleur today thanked the Shirley Papanui Community Board for the funding she and her brother Liam received to help get them to Sydney last month.

The pair performed at the 26th Australian International Music Festival at the Sydney Opera House in early July as part of the Papanui High Concert Band, which won silver for the school.

The Shirley / Papanui Community Board approved $300 each to Liam who plays the trumpet, and Zoe who plays the clarinet.

Shirley Papanui Community Board Chair Mike Davidson said supporting young people from the ward in their creative and sporting endeavours is one of the most rewarding things the board does.

"We have so many talented young people; it's such a joy to hear of their achievements in festivals and competitions around the country and internationally," he said.

All funding information is available at www.ccc.govt.nz

Liam is 15 (Year 11) and Zoe is 14 (Year 9).

Mum, Sarah Helleur says "Only 2 year 9's went and we were the only family with two children who went so the grant really helped us."

Zoe is Year 10 and Liam is Year 11 at Papanui High School in Christchurch.
