"Most of the rise for June was from international guest nights," Statistics New Zealand business indicators manager Neil Kelly said.
Statistics were released this week from The Accommodation Survey which collects data for guests staying in hotels, motels, backpacker accommodation, and holiday parks in New Zealand each month.
With international travellers flocking from all over the globe accommodation providers have seen a peak in guest nights up from past years.
Comparing June 2014 with June 2015 international guest nights were up 8.0 percent according to statistics from Statistics New Zealand. North Island guest nights were up 2.7 percent and South Island guest nights were up 3.8 percent.
It wasn’t just the big cities that saw a peak either 10 of the 12 regional areas surveyed had more guest nights in the month of June.
Visitor arrivals were up 14, 800 this June with 177,000 travellers making their way into the country. The biggest changes were in people arriving from Australia (up 8,500), China (up 3,600) and the United States (up 2,300).
Looking domestically guest nights were also up with national guest nights up 3.1%. This statistic makes June 2015 and represents the 15th consecutive month of rises in national guest nights.
