Topcars Direct Salesperson Profile: Richard Hudson

Richard Hudson has been at Topcars Direct for ten years.  He specialises in Sales and Finance.

Coming from a boat building background, Richard says he’s glad to have left his days of boat building behind him.  “I wanted a change,” says Richard, “especially from the chemicals I’d been breathing in [as a boat builder].  Breathing in all that fibreglass dust isn’t good.  I wasn’t even that old but I was feeling old.  Buggered by four o’clock.”

When he was offered the job at Topcars Direct, he knew he was ready to make the change and started work with his old friend Stu Phillips and owner Blake Johnson.  

“I’ve always had an interest in cars and owned cars,” says Richard.  “I wasn’t mechanically or really technically minded initially but I just liked the way they operated here.  No pressure, just honesty”. 

Richard’s favourite part of the job is seeing his customers “buzz out” on their new purchase.  “Then I know I have made their day”, he says.  He also enjoys meeting new people.  “I meet new people every single day.  No day is the same.”

Richard and his workmates get along famously and enjoy working together.  Richard says he’s learned a lot from working at Topcars Direct with Blake and Stu.  “I have grown in the industry from when I started here 10 years ago,” he says.  “We haven’t changed our formula since I’ve been here. What we do works”.

 Richard’s top tip for people looking to buy a new car is, “follow your gut.  If you have a funny feeling, listen to it.  Ask questions if you have doubts.  Be very careful not to sacrifice quality for price.”

But Richard wants us to remember his most important piece of advice: “Enjoy the process.” He says.  “Have fun!”
