New Roundabout is Product of Teamwork

The Hillcrest Roundabout has been proving itself to be popular among local and visiting drivers, thanks to hard work and a team spirit among the contractors.
Completed in September, the roundabout was intended to streamline traffic at one of Hamilton’s busiest intersections and by all accounts it’s achieved that goal.
The new roundabout replaced the existing intersection, linking SH1 (Cambridge Road), SH26 (Morrisville Road) and the Hillcrest shopping centre. The intersection typically sees around 37,000 vehicles passing through each day.
NZTA Waikato State Highways Manager Kaye Clarke says she’s pleased with the end result. “We’re very pleased with how it’s operating and very pleased with the way the contractors worked with us to be able to do the physical work and with very little disruption to the peak traffic in particular,” said Ms Clarke, adding, “We’re getting good feedback. As you drive through it you can see that it’s actually working”.
Ms Clarke adds, “It was very much a team effort, along with keeping the public informed and it’s gone very well with no major upsets to businesses or the local community.”
Warren Hargreaves, whose company Waikato Construction Ltd was responsible for the concrete curbing on the roundabout, agrees that the success is down to the different organisations coming together and working as a team.
“I was a bit sceptical at first,” says Warren, “but I’m really impressed with the end result. It’s changed the whole traffic flow in that area.
“Everyone who worked on it should be congratulated. The NZTA really pulled it together and it came up great.
“Traffic Management was wonderful. We had to work at nights and they really did a fantastic job of keeping the traffic flowing with very little disruption.
“Also William McPherson from Cambridge Construction did an amazing job of course. We’ve worked with them a lot and they always to a great job. They’re good guys.”
“The whole thing went very smoothly. Everyone came together and it’s a really pleasing result.”
