Our sincerest condolences to the families of the recent diving tragedies, as underwater lovers these really touch us.

We are fortunate to live in a country with an incredible underwater environment for us to enjoy, and as advocates for safe and enjoyable underwater activities in New Zealand we want to remind divers to dive safely with a few key safety messages.

  1. Firstly keep your diving skills up to date. If you haven’t dived for a while we recommend you undertake a PADI Reactivate programme (Refresher) with your local Dive Centre.
  2. Secondly, get a medical at least every 5 years. While diving is a fun recreational activity which almost everybody can participate in you need to ensure you haven’t developed a medical condition which would exclude you from diving. It’s also important to keep fit too!
  3. Thirdly ensure your equipment is serviced at least every 2 years by a qualified scuba technician, your life depends on this equipment.
  4. Finally keep in touch; always tell someone where you are going diving, take a certified dive buddy and always use a dive flag.
