Improving awareness of what’s happening in our community is one of the positive outcomes for both board members, local police and schools according to Shirley Papanui councillor Ali Jones.

The breakfast meetings once a term at the Shirley Papanui Community Board Rooms in Restell Street Papanui attracted 13 principals and other school representatives from across the ward this morning.

The guest speaker today was acting police sergeant Nicholas Adcock, of the Papanui Police who updated the principals, school reps and board members on police work in the Shirley Papanui Ward.

John Bangma, principal of Mairehau Primary School says “We get a really good idea of what is happening across the whole of our area and can also find out what else is available for our children.”

Clr Jones says it might sound cliché but it does take a village to raise a child.

“In Christchurch we know perhaps better than others, how important our schools are to the wider community. Meeting and talking with our school principals regularly is an effective way to share knowledge, hear concerns and further support these passionate people in the work they do,” she says.
