Winds of Change

A new player on Hamilton’s accommodation scene has arrived recently like a whirlwind of change with new ideas and big plans.
Kenneth Mitchell, the new owner of Ventura Inn & Suites on Clarence Street, is promising to do his part for the Hamilton community while providing top class accommodation for travellers and visitors to the Waikato.
Kenneth, a ball of energy with hobbies including mountain biking and microlights, has a history of success in the hospitality industry and says he just can’t keep away from the industry he’s passionate about.
“I sold a TOP 10 Holiday Park in Queenstown in May last year and vowed I was leaving hospitality and not returning,” says Kenneth.
“I said I’d probably get bored after twelve months and start looking around for another accommodation business. When I got to that point I asked if someone could please shoot me. Unfortunately no one did. I just couldn’t help myself - I’m doing it all again!”
Kenneth’s enthusiasm could be just the tonic Hamilton needs as the city continues to build its reputation as a desirable destination in New Zealand’s hospitality scene.
“Hamilton has excellent growth prospects,” says Kenneth. “Ventura Inn & Suites is redefining itself to stay in step with our growing and vibrant economy.”
Kenneth says Ventura already has a reputation for friendly, helpful staff and attractive price points and just needs a dynamic boost to make an impact on Hamilton’s hospitality scene.
“Like my Holiday Park, this business has had dollars extracted over a long period of time with minimum investment or improvement,” says Kenneth. “It needs someone with energy to revitalise all the hardware and software.”
“Most importantly, the business culture is going to change radically too,” he says, “from a financially struggling ownership to a vibrant business with a heart for the community.
“We are not just about accommodation. We are here to invest in our local community and make a difference.”
Perhaps the future of Ventura Inn & Suites lies in the meaning of the name: Ventura is Spanish for “good fortune”. Now we could all do with some of that!
